Welcome to My Sister’s Yarn Shop |

|
From Cascade I ordered their new wool and acrylic blend called Pacific. It’s great for children’s projects and it’s oh so soft.
Included in my Rowan selections are their new Heritage Tweed and Colorspun. Heritage Tweed is a 100 % wool DK weight yarn, and I ordered 12 new colors. Colorspun is also a DK weight yarn with 72% wool, 14% mohair and 14% polymide. I’m bringing all 10 colors into the shop. It is soft and has a very nice shading effect.
SMC Select’s Dolce Vita, a vibrantly variegated wool yarn, creates a scarf in minutes without the use of knitting needles. You finger knit starting with the first loop made with a slipknot and pulling the yarn through it to make the next loop.
By pulling the yarn through successively made loops until there’s just enough yarn left to tie off, you’ll create a chain of knit stitches. With no knitting skills or equipment needed, everyone from child to adult can easily knit this playful scarf.
Dave and I took a wonderful vacation to Norway in June. We flew into Oslo and spent a few days there. We then flew 800 miles north to Kirkenes where we got on a ship and sailed back south to Bergen.
We were well above the Arctic Circle. At this time of year the sun does not set above the Arctic Circle. That made sleep difficult. We would be up talking and suddenly realize that it was well past midnight and it was like the middle of the day.
We stopped in many ports, and I found many yarn shops along the way. None of them were open, so I have pictures of me standing outside of them trying to open the locked doors!
Once we arrived in Bergen I was able to find three shops that were open. I bought two pattern books and some yummy silk and mohair yarn. The pattern will be challenging since it is written in Norwegian. It was a great trip!
My Pertinino and Ultra Pima sweaters are still works in progress. I got distracted when the Schafer Yarn Helene, a silk and wool blend, started talking to me. |

I’m finishing up the sleeves of a cardigan. I should have it on the blocking board by the weekend. Just in time for the ninety degree days of July and August. I also crocheted a hat. I am working on getting better with my crochet projects.
I’m off now to finish the sleeves and then on to many more projects.

June 14, 2011 — Last week it seemed as if we were in the middle of summer. The weather this week makes it seem as if we’re back in the middle of spring again!
Last Sunday I went to Hardesty Park in Akron for World Wide Knit in Public Day. I thought we had a great turnout for the first event in the Akron area. We’re already talking about next year’s event.
Since my last blog entry I’ve finished the Miley Tee in the Lenpur by Rowan, and it’s on display in the shop now. I like the drape of the yarn. I also knit a cotton tee for myself using a worsted weight cotton and a Knitting Pure and Simple pattern.
The Gedifra Pertinio has finally talked to me. I’m using it for a short-sleeved sweater that’s on the cover of the Gedifra Moments 0225 book. It has an interesting construction. You start with the bottom band and then work up in sections. I have the right front finished and am now working on the back. I should have it done in time for fall.
The other big project I’m working on is a lace pullover, using Cascade Ultra Pima and a pattern from the new book Knitting Plus. The stitch definition is great. The Knitting Plus book is full of information on how to get a good fit for your body type. I guess it’s my new favorite book.
I’ve been meeting with yarn company reps, looking at the new fall and winter yarns. In my next blog entry I’ll let you know about some of these great new yarns that will start arriving in late July and early August.
Hope everyone is having a great summer. Keep the needles clicking and the hooks |

April 27, 2011 — Once again I’ve waited far too long to make a blog post! All this grey, rainy weather has made me a bit lazy. The only thing I seem to want to do is knit.
I’d like to start off by welcoming Barb Ulery as the latest addition to the staff at My Sister’s Yarn Shop. You may have noticed on our class schedule that Barb will begin teaching classes here in May. She will also be working a couple of days a week in the shop assisting customers.
Many of you may already be familiar with Barb, as she has been teaching knitting classes in the Akron area for many years. She retired from the Green local school district a few years ago, and has been devoting much of her time to knitting.
We are very fortunate to be able to add Barb to our staff. She is an accomplished knitter, experienced teacher, and all-around wonderful person.
Back to my knitting, I’m currently working on the Miley Tee by C2Knits using Rowan Lenpur. It’s a top down tee, and the Lenpur is a linen and viscose blend. It has a very nice drape to it. I should be finished in the next week, which means I’m already scoping out my next project.
Gedifra has a couple of new yarns for this season. Rosas is a cotton and polymide blend with great summer colors. I described Pertinio in my last blog entry, and now I really want to use it for something. I’m waiting for the yarn to tell me what it wants to be.
I also mentioned Rowan’s new Savannah in the last blog entry. We now have a really cute vest on display. The vest is all garter stitch, which makes it a quick knit. I made the vest for myself in the grey color way. It made for great television and car knitting.
Cascade came out with Ultra Pima this spring. It’s a DK weight cotton and has a nice sheen to it. We have 15 colors in stock. It would be perfect for a summer |
